ARTWORK by Annett Stenzel !

“I’m a figure, without a name – every single piece, a mirror, mirroring a piece of you and me”. Soulful, jazzy, foggy, dusty, like a vinyl spinning repeat. Weird warped voice. A Tetris-like mirroring beat, a circular funky loop — opening up to sun. Dragging, mourning storytelling, about years of an objectified body exposed as a thing. Weird revue circus stepping, light and bubbly and pink.

Virginia Supreme consists of 13 songs, dealing poetically and exploratively with questions around gender, identity and social constructs through an imaginatively fluid genre-expression. Avant-pop or a mosaic of bursts of musical thoughts, danceable grooves, colorful surfaces, humour and dreams.

The record is kindly supported by DMF & Autor.

Second single from upcoming album ‘Virginia Supreme’ by BESS :
Sampled flutes ringing longingly in attempted healing of body-image and sense of poetical self, Gatekeeper is a soulful synth-carried ballad, pouring out emotional testimony to experiences of exclusion and sorrow of feeling left – love and notions of acceptance, clouded with doubt and questioning whether your premise as an identified female in patriarchal society, leaves you unwanted, solely on the basis of unproportional and unfair bias towards your gender. 💋

VIDEO is created by Sofia Due Rosenzweig, beautifully capturing feelings of self-doubt and paralysis on the verge to blooming and weaving of body-shame with sense of belonging in one-self and connecting to nature .

First single out today, 2nd of August, from the upcoming full album ‘Virginia Supreme’!

This song is the second opener to the 13 song long song circle. The song discusses gender and identity and the notion on being in drag in your actual life and poses questions of how communication happens on multiple levels between people, from bodily to intellectual. A rebellious and sexy beat-driven nugget claiming love despite gender-based power-distribution. Grace Jones quotes and Madonna firecefulness, produced by BESS herself.

Released by Don’t Look Back Records, Copenhagen.

LYRICS:

(Intro-speeking)
“Usually, umm, that’s connected to this, you know I come from the world of like feminism, like the female is um, very much into that point, but um, actually I read a book last, haha! And there was a position, I really liked, to open, uh, this kind of, um, term. Umm, that it is a possibility, as I understood it, maybe it was not that same meaning in the book, but as I understood it it was, like to use it, to use this kind of term, to open up, uh, the term of gender.. umm, like, if you’re a feminist, you’re not only a feminist for/in a female way, you are just, um, more in a gender way, cause we have all those different kind of gender, and of colour of, uh, feminism, like um many women that wouldn’t, uh, say that they are feminist they, but they live in a feministic way, and ugh, this is all influences, umm, kind of term, also yea this is transgender, and uh, so for me, that is a kind of uh, possibility to think about gender.”

Hey yo!
This is an interview
(This is an interview)
Hey, yo.
Ha ha! Ouh!
This is an interview
This is an interview – you’re feminine
I think, I think, I think
It’s ridiculous
I think, I think, I think
It’s ridiculous
(Do you like, being masculine?
I like being both, actually
Being masculine, it’s an attitude
What being masculine, what is that?
(What does that mean?)
There’s no comparison
There’s no comparison
There’s no compari, there’s no comparis
There’s no comparison
(Can you tell me what it is, being masculine?
Does it carry through to your sexual preference?
Well, that depends
Well do you find women attractive?
I find, women attractive..
I think if I didn’t, I wouldn’t fine myself attractive)
I wouldn’t find myself attractive
I wouldn’t find myself
I wouldn’t find myself
I wouldn’t find myself attractive
I wouldn’t find myself
I wouldn’t find myself attractive
(Does that make you bi-sexual?
It doesn’t make me anything
It’s kind of ridiculous
You’re trying to categorise people’s feelings
With saying, what does one prefer
There’s, really no comparison
It’s just, do what you feel when you feel,
And if you feel like it..
Right?)

Mmm mmmmm

My hips, my lips, my thighs, my eyes
My hips, my lips, my thighs, my eyes

This is not me saying this
This is not me saying this

Witch house
Which house?

Resistance, resistance
Why do you love me
Why do you love me ?

Surfaces turn me on
Surfaces turn me on!

I am a fucking artwork
I am a fucking artwork!

Do I need any story
Do I need any story

Maybe you like me now
Maybe you like me now

Who is this
Who is this

I wanna be free
I wanna be free

Cause you’re repeating the pattern
Repeating the pattern
Cause you’re repeating the pattern
Repeating the pattern
Repeating
Cause you’re repeating the pattern
Repeating the pattern
Cause you’re repeating

It’s just muscles moving back and forth
It’s just images moving back and forth
It’s just images moving back and forth

Repeating repeating repeating
Repeating
Repeating repeating repeating
Repeating

Repeat!

Repeat
